Both sides of the silver-coloured Mjölnir amulet feature interlaced patterns, a rune-like symbol and a geometric motif within a circular border. The wide hanging hole formed into the hammer's handle is suitable for use with different chains and cords.
Mjölnir is the hammer of Thor, the god of thunder in Norse mythology. Thor was portrayed as the defender of the worlds of gods and humans, using his hammer particularly against giants. Mjölnir was also associated with consecration and blessing.
Small hammer-shaped amulets worn as pendants are known from the Viking Age. Finds have been made in Scandinavia and other areas influenced by the Vikings. Mjölnir pendants were also used during the period when Christian crosses became more widespread in the Nordic countries, and they have been interpreted as expressions of a connection to pre-Christian religious tradition.
Symbolism
Mjölnir is associated with protection, strength, courage and fertility. As an amulet, Thor's hammer may also represent steadfastness, defence and the heritage of Norse mythology.
Care instructions
Stainless steel tolerates occasional contact with water. Dry the jewellery after it gets wet and avoid strong cleaning products and prolonged exposure to moisture to preserve the shine and blackened details.
