In Hesiod's Birth of the Gods, Aether is the son of Erebus and Nycs and the brother of Hemera. His mother Nyks (personification of night) pulls a dark mist from Erebos across the sky, bringing night below him, while his sister Hemera (day) pulls away the mist to reveal the radiant glow of Aether, bringing day.
