Ritual salt
Ritual salt
Ritual salt is especially intended for ritual practices where purification, protection and increasing strength are key elements. We recommend using salt during the Purifico phase in purification rituals and also as part of altar rituals to represent purity and the earth element.
Symbol meaning
Salt has been used in rituals for millennia and has always had a strong symbolic meaning in different faith traditions. Its typical symbolic meanings are related to purification, protection, energy balancing, sanctification and even exorcism. Salt carries the power of the earth element with it and it also symbolizes feminine energy. It has been used in spells and magic, funerals, mummification and amulets. Salt has been strongly associated with purity, sanctity and spiritual protection, and was believed to help maintain a connection with the Divine realm as well as ensure people's transition from life to the afterlife.
- Dead Sea salt has versatile symbolism and has taken on special meaning in many cultures and belief systems. Dead Sea salt comes from one of the deepest and saltiest waters in the world. Thus, it symbolizes depth, mysticism and access to hidden knowledge and wisdom. It is particularly known for its cleansing and nurturing mineral content and thus reflects a purifying effect that helps release past burdens and create a new beginning. Dead Sea salt is historically known for its protective and healing properties. Symbolically, it can represent protection from evil energy and a sense of strength to overcome difficulties.
Ritual use
Ritual salt is designed to be used to cleanse yourself from something that you feel is limiting, a chain and hindering your own growth and aspirations. It is recommended to be used especially in times when it is time to leave the old behind, and when you want to move forward in life. If you want to strengthen the symbolic effectiveness of the purification ritual, you can do it at the time of the new moon or the waning moon. The waning moon symbolizes e.g. letting go of the unnecessary and Uusikuu, on the other hand, cleansing.
You can use the salt as it is, or you can add herbs, oils or scented oils suitable for your purpose to make a salt mixture that suits your situation.
Salt can be used in many ways in rituals. Listen to your own intuition about what feels right or suitable for you. Here are a couple of examples:
Ritual 1:
- Preparation: Before starting the ritual, choose a calm and undisturbed space. You can also light a candle or incense to create an atmosphere conducive to the ritual.
- Awareness: Pour salt into your palms. Focus for a moment on the symbolic energy of salt and stones. Close your eyes and breathe calmly and deeply for as long as you want, focusing on the sacred and powerful vibration of the salt and what you are leaving behind.
- Cleansing: when you are ready you can use salt to symbolically clean objects, space or yourself of negative energies. Visualize the salt absorbing the things you want to leave behind.
- Leaving the old behind: at the end of the ritual, throw/sweep/rinse the used salt away and feel how the thing to be left behind is washed away with the salt. Feel relieved.
- Thank you: After the ritual is completed, thank you for the help you received. You can say thank you out loud or in your mind.
Ritual 2: a ritual performed in natural water
- Preparation: Before starting the ritual, choose a quiet and undisturbed place.
- Cleaning: when you're ready, walk into the water to the depth you want. Wash yourself symbolically with salt and at the same time visualize how the salt absorbs the things you want to leave behind. Immerse yourself in the water, allowing the natural water to completely wash away what is left behind. Get out of the water and feel relaxed and renewed.
- Thank you: After the ritual is completed, thank you for the help you received. You can say thank you out loud or in your mind.
