This velvet pouch carries the essence of a captivating legend from 15th-century Corsica. The story tells of a ship caught in a fierce storm near Galéria. Desperate, the captain prayed to the Virgin Mary, vowing to bring the most beautiful statue of Mary from Genoa if he survived. During his prayer, a mysterious light appeared in the sky, guiding the ship to safety.
True to his promise, the captain dedicated the statue, which was placed in a Franciscan monastery by the Tafonata forest. Although the monastery was destroyed by the Turks in the 16th century, the statue was rescued and brought to the village of Casamaccioli, where it found a new home in the Saint Antoine Chapel. Miraculously, the statue repeatedly appeared in the village square, inspiring shepherds to build a church dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
This story embodies deep communal reverence and a profound sense of the sacred, celebrated annually on the Virgin Mary's birthday. The velvet pouch invites you to connect with this rich tradition, bringing a touch of Corsican spirit into your life.
