Golden healer is not a distinct mineral species. The name is a commercial term for quartz crystals with golden or honey-coloured staining caused by iron oxides on or within the crystal. The base material is quartz, chemically composed of silicon dioxide (SiO₂).
The golden healer colouring develops when iron oxides, such as haematite or limonite, accumulate on the surface of the quartz crystal or within it. The colour is therefore not a pigment inherent to quartz, but the result of later mineralisation or surface deposits.
Quartz has been used for objects and jewellery since prehistoric times. Its hardness and transparency have made it a practical and valued decorative material.
Symbolic meaning
Clear quartz has been regarded as a symbol of light and clarity in many cultures. In ancient Greece, it was believed to be eternally frozen water. In later European esoteric thought, quartz was described as a symbol of clarity of consciousness.
