Symbolic meaning

Eguzkilore (“sunflower” in Basque) is a powerful symbol of protection, light and life in Basque mythology. The name refers to the sun, as the flower’s shape resembles a radiant solar form. Traditionally, the dried flower of the wild silver thistle (Carlina acaulis) was hung on the doors of rural homes to ward off witches, evil spirits, illness and storms, keeping harm at bay. At its core, the symbol is associated with light – that which reveals, clarifies and dispels darkness.

The cross-like element at the top of the pendant refers to the structure of a rosary. Here, the form of the cross symbolises a relationship with the sacred, as well as focus and prayer.

When these two elements are combined in a single piece, the jewellery brings together the protective symbolism of the eguzkilore and the sacred meaning conveyed through the cross. The eguzkilore represents light and protection, while the cross introduces intention and connection. Together, they form an amulet in which protection and sacredness are intertwined.

Water Resistance
