Quartz, about 300 BCE-500 BCE, Bactria/Balk (Mazar-e-sharif), Afghanistan. About 15mm to 10mm in size. Quartz beads are sold individually. The products in the picture are sample pieces.

The hand-shaped quartz beads, glazed with either blue or turquoise glaze, originate from Bactria. The beads in question have only been found in a certain small area, suggesting that the beads were made only for local use and were never made for export. According to one theory, the pearls would have been pure white in color in the beginning and that they would have acquired a colorful glaze only much later, even after hundreds of years of active use.
