History

The ankh is one of the most recognisable hieroglyphs of ancient Egypt. It appears in early depictions and remained in use throughout the entire history of ancient Egyptian civilisation. The symbol simply means “life”, yet its usage reflects a broader understanding of vitality, continuity, and immortality. Gods are often depicted holding an ankh before a person’s face, as if breathing the force of life into them.

The Eye of Horus, also known as the wedjat eye, is linked to the myth in which the falcon god Horus loses his eye in a battle with Seth.
