Small, very good quality bright blood red garnets. Garnet is a group of silicate minerals that are united by their chemical composition and cubic crystal system. Iron or chromium can also be present in place of aluminum. Garnet crystals are usually shaped like rhombidodecahedrons or icositetrahedrons. Garnet has a hardness of 6.5–7.5 on the Mohs scale and its transparency ranges from completely transparent to opaque. Garnets come in a very wide range of colors: the most common colors are red, yellow, brown and green, but garnets occur in almost all colors except blue. Garnets are also known to appear blue in daylight and purplish-red in artificial light.

Garnet probably derives its name from the Latin word for grain or seed (granatus), which refers to the mineral's characteristic structure of distinct grain-like crystals. The name is thought to possibly refer to the word "mela granatum" or "pomum granatum" (pomegranate apple, Punica granatum), whose deep dark red seeds bear a striking resemblance to the garnet mineral. Garnet is a popular gemstone. There are six known garnet minerals: pyrope, almandine, spessartine, grossular, uvarovite, and andradite. The first three form their own groups, and the last three form their own.

Symbol meaning

The fiery red garnet symbolizes passion, power, love and creativity. It is a stone of the heart and root chakras and has also been considered to represent sexuality, trust, libido and fire. Garnet is mentioned in biblical texts and has been used as a spectacular gemstone since ancient times. As a result, it is also associated with Persephone, Aphrodite and Venus. According to Greek mythology, the queen of the underworld, Persephone held the key to the place where the garnet would conceive. Hades wanted Persephone for himself and kidnapped her with him to the Underworld. Ignoring the orders of the supreme god Zeus to free Persephone, Hades tricked Persephone into eating four cursed pomegranate seeds, which forced her to spend four months with Hades.

Garnet is considered the stone of Scorpio.
