Symbolic meaning

Chakras are subtle energy centres — vortices of rotating energy that function as points of energetic exchange. Although the human body contains hundreds of chakra points, the best known and most significant are the seven main chakras, located along the body’s central channel in alignment with the spine.

When the chakras function properly, they act as gateways for life force: energy flows into the body through the channels of the subtle body (nadis and meridians). At the same time, they help guide lower-vibrational energy out of the body, where it can be transformed.

Each of the seven main chakras corresponds to a particular level of consciousness or stage of development from the perspective of physical existence. If the chakras remain imbalanced for long periods due to negative habits or suppressed emotions, their functioning weakens and the full integration of that level of consciousness becomes more difficult. When the chakras are open and balanced, they form an interconnected system in which the functioning of each influences the others.
