Tibet or India. Bronze alloy.
Size approximately 95mm x 95mm. Weight 555g.
A tingsha (also ting-sha) is a pair of cymbals cast from bronze alloy or bell bronze, with a leather cord connecting two often decorative convex cymbals. Tingshas are used especially in Tibetan Buddhist rituals, where they are played with one hand, often with a slight movement of the wrist, causing the cymbals to strike each other.
Symbol meaning
The bright, ringing sound of the tingsho symbolizes the great compassion of the Buddha. The convex shape of the tingsho bowls has been said to resemble the canopy of heaven, and their movement has been seen to symbolize the passage of time and the extremes of life - good and evil, death and life, darkness and light, beginning and end.
Ritual use
Tingshas are an integral part of various spiritual practices, such as meditation, prayer and rituals. Their sound is believed to help with concentration, deepen connection with divine energy and invite spiritual growth. Tingshas are believed to ward off negative energies, evil spirits and protect against harm.
