Central Europe, 18th century or earlier.
Wooden frames from the early 20th century.
Symbol meaning
Jesus was crucified on Golgotha in Judea outside the city walls of Jerusalem around 30–33 AD around Easter time. According to the Gospels, the Jews wanted to stone Jesus several times, among other things, because of his teachings, when he forgave people's sins and called God his Father, but the Jewish Pharisees and chief priests also feared Jesus' growing popularity and the reaction of the Roman Empire. According to Christians, Jesus was the Son of God, who rose from the dead on the third day after his death. The resurrection is a central belief in Christianity. The empty cross became perhaps the best-known symbol of Christianity due to Jesus' death on the cross and resurrection.
Note! The wood carving is hundreds of years old. There is age-related wear, stains and small tears.
