The Occitan Cross is known by the names croix occitane and croix de Toulouse. The earliest confirmed historical sources date back to the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries, appearing in the seals of Raymond VI, Count of Toulouse, and in the heraldry of the County of Toulouse. Over time, the cross became a regional symbol for the political and cultural entity of Southern France, now known as Occitania.
