Labradorite is a mineral belonging to the plagioclase feldspar group, with a hardness of approximately 6–6.5 on the Mohs scale. It is especially known for labradorescence — an optical phenomenon in which the surface of the stone reflects light in flashes of blue, green, gold, and sometimes violet. It is used as a gemstone and in decorative objects precisely because of this striking play of colour.
Iridescent labradorite is regarded as a mystical and protective bringer of light. It is believed to elevate consciousness, connect one to universal energies, dispel unwanted energies from the aura, and prevent energetic depletion. It is also thought to guide awareness towards other lifetimes. As a stone of esoteric knowledge, it is considered supportive of initiation into deeper mysteries.
Labradorite is believed to harmonise the physical and etheric bodies, open a connection to spiritual purpose, raise awareness, and ground spiritual energies within the physical body. It is said to stimulate intuition and psychic abilities, including a sense of right timing, and to bring messages from the unconscious mind into conscious understanding.
The stone is also thought to dispel fear and insecurity, as well as the psychological residue of past disappointments — including those associated with previous lives. It is believed to strengthen self-trust and confidence in the universe, and to clear projections and thought-forms attached to the aura.
Labradorite is described as calming an overactive mind while energising the imagination and inspiring new ideas. It is associated with meditation and self-reflection, and with uniting rational thought and intuitive wisdom. It is said to dispel illusion, penetrate to the heart of a matter, reveal the true intentions behind thoughts and actions, and bring suppressed memories to the surface.
In times of change, labradorite is regarded as a companion that conveys strength and perseverance. As a stone of transformation, it is believed to prepare both body and soul for a process of spiritual ascension.
A palm stone is polished smooth and held in the hand to aid relaxation and focus. Its use is based on simple tactile sensation: the stone is moved between the fingers or held in the palm to help settle the body and mind, steady the breath and support moments of presence. It is suitable for easing stress, meditation and short pauses during a busy day.
