Pyrite, also known as “fool’s gold,” is an iron sulfide. It is the most common of all sulfide minerals. The name pyrite is derived from the Greek word pyritēs (πυρίτης), meaning “of fire” or “in fire.” The name most likely originates from the fact that pyrite produces sparks when struck against steel or flint.
Symbol meaning
Pyrite
Pyrite is considered a strongly positive stone. It is believed to support the use of one’s skills and potential, encourage the flow of new ideas, and help overcome passivity and feelings of inadequacy. When placed on a desk, pyrite is thought to energize its surroundings and thereby support the development of ambitious business plans.
This stone is said to teach one to look beneath the surface and understand the true nature of things, while also promoting diplomacy. Psychologically, pyrite is believed to ease anxiety and frustration while strengthening self-esteem and confidence. It may be particularly helpful for men who struggle with feelings of inferiority, as it is thought to enhance self-confidence and masculine energy. For women, pyrite is believed to help release submissiveness and feelings of inadequacy.
Angel symbolism
Angels are a recurring symbol across cultures and religions, representing protection, the transmission of messages, and spiritual presence. In early Jewish tradition, angels appeared as messengers — the Hebrew word mal’ākh literally means “one who is sent.” In Christian theology, they developed into beings within celestial hierarchies who act as mediators of God’s will to humanity.
The symbolism of wings, inherited from the art of the ancient Near East and Persia, became part of angelic imagery in Christian iconography beginning in the 4th century. Wings signify the being’s otherworldly nature and the ability to move between the visible and invisible realms. During the Middle Ages, angels acquired their characteristic features: wings, white garments, halos, and serene expressions, all symbolizing holiness, purity, and a connection to divine light.
In Jewish and Christian mysticism, angels were seen as mediators of consciousness and inner understanding. The Theosophical movement of the 19th and 20th centuries expanded this interpretation, describing angels as beings of energy and vibration who reflect compassion, inspiration, and higher awareness. These ideas later influenced various spiritual and esoteric traditions.
The figure of the angel embodies innocence, grace, and a comforting presence. Angels represent hope when human understanding falls short and remind us of unseen support throughout life’s different stages. Symbolically, the angel serves as a bridge between the higher and the human experience — a being standing at the threshold between time and timelessness. In this way, angels remain enduring symbols of protection, wisdom, and inspiration.
