Mookaite is a cryptocrystalline quartz stone belonging to the jasper family (SiO₂), known for its rich, multicoloured appearance that often combines shades of yellow, red, brown, and violet. Almost all commercially available mookaite originates from the Mooka Creek area in Western Australia, and its name derives from the Aboriginal word mooka, referring to running water. The source area is geographically limited and locally protected, which naturally restricts the availability of mookaite. With a hardness of around 6.5–7 on the Mohs scale, it is a durable yet highly valued stone for jewellery and decorative use.
Mookaite is said to offer a supportive balance between inner and outer experiences. It is associated with both a desire for new experiences and the calm presence needed to face them. Mookaite is believed to encourage versatility by presenting different options and supporting clear decision-making. It is also traditionally regarded as a stone with a stabilising influence on the physical level.
