Symbol meaning

The Raven is one of the oldest known symbols of wisdom and transformation. It appears in myths as a liminal being — crossing the boundaries between light and shadow, life and death, knowledge and secrecy.

In Norse mythology, the ravens Hugin and Munin flew daily from Odin’s shoulders across the world, returning with knowledge and memory. They represent the dual aspects of the mind — thought and memory — and the ability to perceive the deeper layers of reality. In Celtic tradition, the raven is associated with Morrígan, the goddess of war and fate, who could transform into a raven or send them as her messengers during moments of change and rebirth. In alchemy, the raven is linked to the nigredo, the black phase in which the soul undergoes purifying darkness before the emergence of new light.

In Semiphoraks’ interpretation, the raven embodies the guardian of knowledge and bearer of hidden truth. It reminds us that true understanding arises only when one dares to confront the shadow and listen to what lies beyond silence.

This imagery is particularly suited for use as a ritual book, personal journal, or a tool for shadow work. The raven protects written words and preserves their meaning — a companion on the journey toward deeper consciousness and the mysteries of the mind.
