Shadow Stone – Bearer of the Dark Side
- size and weight: 9.5cm x 5.5cm x 3.1cm, 190g
The Shadow Stone is intended as a personal object for those engaged in conscious inner work or standing at a turning point in life. It serves as a reminder that all true growth begins with the honest act of facing what has long remained in the shadows.
Symbol meaning
Dived from the clear waters along the shores of an Ice Age–sculpted island in Lake Päijänne, Finland. It was engraved with precision on 7 September 2025, at the moment of a total lunar eclipse, when the full moon in Pisces was completely veiled by the Earth’s shadow. The engraving was carried out deliberately at that very time, so that the symbolism of the eclipse, the withdrawal of the visible and the emergence of the unconscious, would be bound into the stone. There is no other stone like it.
The serpent carved into the stone represents a downward movement: a descent into the terrain of the unconscious, to the place where the Shadow dwells. According to Carl Jung, the Shadow is that part of ourselves we would rather forget, yet its acceptance is essential if we are to become whole. Astrologically, the moment of eclipse signifies a time when the unconscious is stirred and the visible recedes. The serpent inscribed on the stone embodies this movement into the psychic depths – the encounter with one’s own Shadow and the transformation that follows.
Instructions for use – Shadow Stone as a tool for subconscious work
The Shadow Stone was created at a precise moment – during a total lunar eclipse – when the unconscious symbolically rises into visibility and the boundaries of awareness grow thin. An object fashioned at such a moment carries within it a layered symbolism, capable of serving as a gateway to deeper inner work.
Hold the stone so that its convex side rests in the palm of your hand. This side supports connection to the body, to time, and to personal grounding. The smooth side may receive your other hand. In this way, you form a closed circuit between yourself and the stone, one that may help you to approach the threshold of the unconscious – the space of silence, unknowing, and attunement.
The serpent carved into the stone is a living symbol. In Jungian work, a symbol is not a mere metaphor but an autonomous form carrying psychic energy, a medium through which the unconscious may speak. The serpent embodies the downward movement, the encounter with the Shadow, but also the process of psychic transformation – the shedding of skin, the leaving behind of the old. As you hold the stone, let your gaze rest upon the serpent. Do not attempt to analyse its meaning – it is enough to be present to it and to feel its existence. Symbols act directly upon the unconscious. They do not require explanation by reason; it is sufficient to let them work upon you.
You can use the stone for example:
- Before sleep, when you wish to attune yourself to the realm of the unconscious.
- At the beginning of meditation, when you are ready to face something within yourself that has been difficult to see, acknowledge, or endure.
- In ritual moments, when you choose to confront a darker aspect of yourself, give it form, and mark the moment in which you no longer turn away.
- As a support for writing, drawing, or inner work, when you seek to bring forth something that cannot yet be put into words.
- As a reminder when you are in danger of returning to old patterns of denial, concealment, or self-justification.
Hold the stone in your hand and remember: you have already chosen to face this. The stone marks the moment when you no longer turned away. Keeping it in sight can serve as a reminder that honesty with oneself is not a single act, but a choice made anew in every situation where the Shadow rises.
