Symbolism
This Voglio Bene pouch is inspired by Michelangelo’s fresco The Creation of Adam (1511), part of the Sistine Chapel ceiling in the Vatican.
The scene captures the moment when spirit touches matter. The space between the fingers of God and Adam encapsulates the mystery of existence — the spark of life that flows into consciousness. In the pouch design, this space is filled with flowers, butterflies, and celestial light — symbols of creation’s continuity and the enduring presence of the same life-giving force in all things.
The flowers represent nature’s fertile energy; the butterfly symbolises the lightness and transformative power of the psyche. The touch between God and humankind evokes a Jungian meeting between the self and the unconscious — the instant when inner life awakens and a person recognises their connection to a greater whole.
The image on the pouch brings forth the archetype of creation as a living process within each individual — the moment of awakening to a new consciousness of being.
Symbolism is always multi-layered in nature and opens up in multiple interpretations, which everyone can approach from their own starting points, thus enriching the understanding of the different dimensions of the symbol.
