Elba, Italy
Single piece. Size approx. 39mm x 36mm x 26mm. Weight approx. 85g.
A striking and unique piece of pyrite has clearly distinguishable crystals. Pyrite, pyrite, or catkin gold, is an iron sulfide. It is the most common of all sulfide minerals. The name pyrite, derived from the Greek word pyritēs (πυρίτης), means "from fire" or "in fire". The name probably comes from the fact that pyrite sparks when struck against steel or flint. Pyrite was used, for example, in early firearms equipped with a ratchet lock. Pyrite is very easily confused with marcasite, which has the same chemical composition, but its crystal structure is orthorhombic, unlike pyrite's cubic structure. Iron sulfides, both pyrite and marcasite, sometimes form spherical concretions. The concretions crystallize radially from the center directly towards the surface, thus forming beautiful spheres. Pyrite is a light golden yellow in color.
Symbol meaning
Pyrite, which imitates gold, represents wealth, abundance and happiness. The faceted and shimmering bright pyrite is said to symbolize fire and masculine energy in particular. It is believed to promote physical well-being and protect against environmental hazards and physical dangers. Pyrite is also considered to improve concentration, bring inner strength and energy, and increase courage when needed.
