This velvet bag carries with it a fascinating legend that takes us back to 15th-century Corsica. According to the story, a ship was caught in a violent storm near Galéria. In desperation, the captain turned to the Virgin Mary in prayer, vowing that if he survived, he would donate the most beautiful statue of Mary in Genoa. During his prayer, a mystical light appeared in the sky and guided the ship to safety.
The captain kept his promise, and the statue was placed in a Franciscan monastery on the edge of the Tafonata forest. In the 16th century, the monastery was destroyed by the Turks, but the statue was saved and taken to the village of Casamaccioli. Eventually, it was placed in the Saint Antoine Chapel. According to legend, the statue miraculously reappeared in the center of the village several times, until local shepherds built a church in honor of the Virgin Mary.
This story reflects the community’s deep reverence and sense of the sacred, which is celebrated annually during the Festival of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. The velvet bag invites you to become part of this rich tradition, bringing a touch of Corsican spirit to your life.
Symbolism is inherently multi-layered and open to many interpretations. Each person may approach it from their own perspective, enriching the understanding of its different dimensions.
